Out in the Boat

We went out in the boat yesterday, taking our friends Patrick and Phillip Telgen. Before any fishing could happen, Shawn had to plant some clams. That took about an hour and a half of sitting on the boat. Thankfully, it was a picture perfect day, warm but not hot, breezy but not overly so, and clear as a bell.

Sarah and Patrick helped Shawn by taking the clam belts to the back of the boat. From there, Shawn pulls them into the water and rolls them out and stakes them down.

Willie had his first encounter with a life jacket, which he did not really appreciate. If he was standing up he was fine, but once he sat, the vest was longer than his stubby legs and jammed his neck up into a most uncomfortable position. Ultimately, his fussing worked, as I removed it and never put it back on. There must be something better. He's still adorable, even when he's fussy. I mean, check out those little fingees grabbing the cooler, trying to get his sea legs going!

Patrick shows us the gills on a horseshoe crab that Shawn pulled up from the bottom. He is prehistoric, for sure. Willie even touched him. Momma wouldn't.
